Impact fees are one-time charges paid by developers when new homes or buildings are constructed. The funds help ensure growth contributes to the cost of the services and infrastructure needed to support it.

When the fees are collected, they’re distributed into the following buckets:

- Parks & Recreation
- Police
- Fire
- Emergency Operations Center
- Solid Waste

Since Horry County began collecting impact fees in October 2021, more than $45 million has been collected to invest back into projects that benefit residents across the county.

It’s an effort to ensure Horry County remains a great place to live, work, and visit for generations to come.
