Intro

The Horry County Auditor’s Office is responsible for all tax billing within the county. Real Estate bills are valued and generated based on information received from the Assessor’s Office. The Auditor’s Office is responsible for valuing personal property ownership for the purpose of establishing a fair market value, computation of the assessed value and certification of the tax millage rate to produce revenue to be collected by the Horry County Treasurer’s office.

Registration Requirements (Vehicle, boats, campers, etc.)

New Purchase - Bill of Sale or Title (front & back) - Out of State Transfer – Current Registration or Title You must also provide proof of your current residential address. 

Acceptable Documents (must show your name and residential address — no P.O. Boxes):

  • A valid ID/Driver’s license (DL)

AND if your valid ID/DL does not have a current Horry County address, ONE of the following:

  • Recent utility bill (electric, water, gas, internet, etc.)
  • Voter registration card 
  • State or federal tax documents 
  • Mortgage closing papers 
  • Current school attendance records 
  • Lease or rental agreement 

All documents must be current and include your name and physical address.

Motor Vehicle Refund Requirements

THE FOLLOWING INFORMATION IS REQUIRED BEFORE THE REFUND OF TAXES ON MOTOR VEHICLES CAN BE REFUNDED

PROPERTY TAX REFUND ON SOLD VEHICLE
  • Bill of Sale or copy of trade-in-agreement, copy of the original title(signed over to the new owner)
  • Copy of paid tax receipt
  • SC DMV form 5051
TAX REFUND ON A WRECKED VEHICLE
  • A statement from the insurance company, on company letterhead, stating the date of the accident, VIN, and the date the insurance company purchased the vehicle.
  • Copy of paid tax receipt
  • SC DMV form 5051
TAX REFUND ON REPOSSED VEHICLE 
  • A statement from the repo company printed on company letterhead stating the date of repossession, VIN, and the date the vehicle was sold.
  • Paid tax receipt
  • SC DMV form 5051
TAX REFUND DUE TO MOVING OUT OF STATE
  • Copy of new out-of-state registration
  • Paid tax receipt
