The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has awarded a contract to renourish 26 miles of coastline in Horry County following impacts from Hurricanes Ian and Debby.
Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company will place two million cubic yards of material, equivalent to 200,000 dump trucks, along area beaches. The project will help reduce the risk to life and infrastructure beyond the dunes of the Grand Strand during any future storms.
The renourishment is funded entirely by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and will cost $72 million.
Once initiated, community members will be able to track the progress of the renourishment via the Corps' project website: https://cesac.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=5c20349ed99d42febd9e49bd2f270c99
