On May 9, 1775, a courier on horseback arrived in South Carolina carrying news of the Battle of Lexington, the first major armed conflict of the American Revolutionary War.
To commemorate the Palmetto State receiving the "Lexington Alarm," community members gathered at the CB Berry Community Center to learn more about the historic ride and its significance in South Carolina history.
The special event, sponsored by the Horry County Historical Society and the Horry County 250 Committee, culminated with a courier arriving on horseback along the Broad Road with news of the battle, just as was done 250 years ago today.
