Obtaining a Passport

1. You need to bring with you, your original birth certificate bearing your mother’s name and a copy of birth certificate, one 2x2 photo, and a pictured ID (copy of front and back of ID is required by the State Department).
2. The application must be signed in the presence of a clerk. The fee is $130 for adults and $100 for children under the age of 16. If you would like it expedited, that fee is an additional $60 per person.
3. These fees should be brought to the Clerk of Court’s office in the form of a cashier’s check, a money order or a personal check made payable to the US Department of State. In addition, the Clerk of Court charges a $35 fee which is payable in cash or money order ONLY made payable to the Horry County Clerk of Court.

If you need a Passport Renewal, please go to travel.state.gov. If your renewal has been expired less than 5 years, please send it by mail.

Processing Time

Routine Service:	7-10 weeks
Expedited Service	3-5 weeks	Additional $60.00 fee for expedited

*There is no need to check the progress of a passport application for the first 4 weeks. It will likely show “Not Found”. That means that the paperwork hasn’t yet been processed completely by Passport Services.
