Horry County's Stormwater team is working diligently to improve local drainage systems. One area of focus is Brunson Watershed, which is responsible for draining half of Aynor.
Stormwater maintenance crews utilize excavators to remove trees, overgrown brush and sediment that have accumulated over time, obstructing the flow of water.
The project shown here, which covers a stretch of about 10 miles, started about 15 years ago with the County working to obtain easements from local property owners. Work started about a year ago with crews clearing approximately 15,000 feet per month.
While the work is time-consuming, it's crucial for reducing the risk of flash flooding.
