WILDFIRE UPDATE: 3/8/25 at 9:45 a.m.
Smoke in the Carolina Forest area was less prominent, but not non-existent this morning. It will remain visible in some capacity for the duration of this wildfire incident. Residents will continue to see response through the area, potentially responding to flare-ups.
Incoming rain in the coming days should help supplement efforts to increase containment and hopefully, extinguishment eventually.
The burn ban in the unincorporated areas of Horry County is in place and will be strictly enforced.
The hard work of South Carolina fire-rescue crews that have assisted Horry County Fire Rescue and The South Carolina Forestry Commission in response has been swift and immense. We appreciate it so much!
Today, aerial assets dropping water on hot spots will be crucial to keep this progress moving forward.
HCFR crews flew the drone Friday evening to survey areas of potential response.
Strike teams will continue to respond on the ground.
Approximately a dozen plows will be working to further strengthen fire breaks and build new ones.
Most recent figures from SCFC have a 55% containment, with 2,059 acres involved.
Horry County Police Department has been crucial in helping get firefighters where they need to go quickly and safely, and Horry County 911 has done an exemplary job receiving, processing and dispatching all the emergencies of Horry County—related to this incident and outside of it.
For the last seven 24-hour shifts, since the approximate beginning of this incident, HCFR has been dispatched to an average of 294 calls per day, which is about 60 calls ahead of our average.
