A portion of Hemingway Chapel Road, located in the Conway area, will close this week as a stormwater improvement project gets underway.
The contractor plans to close the road between Raspberry Lane and Augustus Drive beginning Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026.
During the closure, only local driveway access will be permitted for residents located beyond Raspberry Lane. Those who travel along Hemingway Chapel Road from Hwy 378 to Cates Bay Hwy regularly are asked to plan alternative routes.
Detours are expected to remain in place until Feb. 9, 2026.
This is one of five Horry County drainage projects funded by a nearly $5.5 million grant through the Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA).
The project will replace a single undersized concrete pipe with three new 48-inch and one new 36-inch concrete pipes.
These improvements will reduce flooding upstream of Hemingway Chapel Road and limit flood impacts to around 10 existing homes during major storm events.
