WILDFIRE UPDATE: 3/3/25 at 8 p.m.
South Carolina Forestry Commission reports the Carolina Forest-area outside fire has grown to approximately 2,059 acres, and remains at 30 percent contained.
Horry County Fire Rescue crews have been operating within five divisions, working specific subdivisions in the area, along with task forces having the roving capability to respond to reported flare-up fires.
With HCFR drones in the sky this evening, monitoring fire activity, crews on ground have been responding in real-time.
Crews continue to reinforce break lines, setting up portable sprinkler systems, saturating the ground.
Overnight, Monday into midday Tuesday, heavy smoke is once again possible and will likely blanket the Carolina Forest area.
Visibility will be an issue. Caution while driving is highly recommended.
Horry County's Public Information Office, as well as a PIO with SCFC provided local media with updates on this wildfire incident.
HCFR crews will continue to cycle in and out of wildfire areas, with supplementary mutual aid crews assisting in the efforts. To this point, more than 500 first responders—including both fire and law enforcement personnel—have been working toward the common goal of full containment and keeping residents and guests safe. There have been more than 200 apparatus and vehicles deployed, from more than 30 fire-rescue agencies.
There is a burn ban in Horry County. With conditions as they are, and first responders stretched thin in response to the large-scale wildfire, now is not the time to mess with any kind of open burning.
International Drive will remain closed until further notice, with fire gates closed on both sides. You will continue to see an increased Horry County Police Department presence, as they help with this incident.
Donations—many delicious—continue to get dropped off on the Command Post at Horry County Fire Rescue Station 39 (Carolina Forest), which is much appreciated but not necessary.
We appreciate the support of the public, and the ongoing words of encouragement we've received throughout!
