The Horry County Animal Care Center will host the Home for the Pawlidays foster event for the third consecutive year.

“When you foster a shelter pet, even for a short time, you’re enriching their lives in a way that’s beneficial to them finding their forever home.” Lt. Kevin Cast said. “Through this program, we hope to give our available shelter pets a new experience this holiday season.”

Community members will have two chances to temporarily foster shelter animals as part of the program – over the November Thanksgiving and December Christmas holiday periods.

Foster pick-up and return dates are set around the county government's observance of the winter holidays.

For the first round, fosters can pick up pets Nov. 26 – 27, 2024, leading up to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Fosters will be able to return the pet on Dec. 2-3, 2024.

For the second round, fosters can pick up pets Dec. 19-21, 2024. Fosters will be able to return the pet Dec. 27-30, 2024.

During both Pawliday rounds, fosters will have the option to extend their foster period or adopt their foster pet.

All foster pets are supported by the ACC during their foster period. Fostering can help pets learn what it is like to be in the home environment and receive extra love and attention while decompressing from the noise of the shelter. Fostering also helps shelter staff learn more about the animal, in ways that may not be possible in a shelter environment.

Our goal is to have as many of our shelter pets in foster homes during the Pawlidays as possible.

The Horry County Animal Care Center is open Monday through Friday, 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (with an hour closure at 12:30 p.m.), and Saturdays, 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
