Adopt a heartworm-positive pet from the Horry County Animal Care Center before Dec. 31, 2025, and the pet's heartworm treatment will be sponsored by the ACC!

This means your adopted heartworm-positive pet will receive treatment free of charge.

Heartworm-positive pets often spend longer in shelters because of their condition. Heartworm infections are common. You can read more about heartworm here.

Heartworm-negative pets adopted during this time will receive 6 months of heartworm preventative at no cost.

The Animal Care Center has more than 50 pets in our care who are heartworm-positive. You can see all of the pets available for adoption here.

All ACC pets are up to date on vaccines, spayed/neutered, and microchipped. All ACC adoptions are fee-free.
