On Tuesday, December 9, 2025, Horry County Police Department took the important step of bringing their fifth precinct officially online.

Through a coordinated effort between the department, Horry County 911 & Communications, Horry County Fire Rescue, Horry County IT and our software vendors, officers are now being dispatched to calls within the boundaries of the new precinct area.

“The effort that went into making the fifth precinct a reality cannot be commended enough,” says Horry County Police Department Chief Kris Leonhardt. “The patience and professionalism exhibited by our teams and partners to make this happen is a testament to the Team Horry mindset.”

Officers, 911 Emergency Specialists, and members of Horry County Fire Rescue had to undergo software upgrades, trainings, and equipment exchanges to make the ‘go-live’ a success.

The Fifth Precinct has been a long-planned addition for the department to keep service levels in line with the quick growth the county has experienced. The physical location of the precinct will be at the Central Coast Complex once complete, but in the interim, it is operating out of the old HCFR station on Forestbrook Road. The Fifth Precinct geographically covers much of the Carolina Forest area.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting new chapter for the department and Horry County.
