Following Horry County Council's Sept. 17 passage of a resolution declaring Oct. 6-12 "Fire Prevention Week" in Horry County, Horry County Fire Rescue crews have been busy emphasizing the importance of working and tested smoke alarms as they relate to the safety of our residents and guests.

"Smoke Alarms: Make Them Work for You!" is the theme of this year's Fire Prevention Week, as recommended by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), aligning with their national campaign.

With more than 200 "working" structure fires in Horry County each year--many of those directly impacted by operational and inoperable smoke alarms--this topic has significance on the HCFR's overall goal to focus on community risk reduction.
