Horry County received two awards from the SC Association of Counties Tuesday -- the Sustained Excellence in Risk Management award and the Most Improved County award.
“Risk management is truly a team effort. It starts with the employees buying into a safety culture, supervisors, your risk management, safety teams, insurance team, support from the County administration, all the up to support from County Council.” Robert Benfield from the SC Association of Counties said.
“We work very hard to build a solid team, great communication, and the relationships with the other departments.” Shelly Moore, Risk Manager for Horry County Government, said. “Every time we get a phone call, we know it’s someone asking a question and it’s a way that we can help.”
Horry County was awarded the Sustained Excellence in Risk Management award for meeting and exceeding the risk management standards put in place by the SC Association of Counties.
“Very few counties in SC rise to the level of what you all do every single year.” Benfield said. “Your team goes above and beyond. They reach out to other counties, freely share programs you have with surrounding members, and are always willing to step up and dedicate themselves to safety & risk management.”
Horry County also received the Most Improved County award, because of the County’s continued demonstration of excellence and dedication to safety culture.
“This award is something we don’t always do.” Benfield said. “It is our pleasure and privilege to present this award to Horry county, for having the best risk management team in SC and our program. Not only are they saving lives, their work has also resulted in saving over $300,000 this year in worker’s comp. Your employee injuries continue to decline year after year. That is truly a win-win for everybody.”
Horry County Police Department’s Crisis Intervention Team also received an award from the SC Association of Counties. You can read more about that award here.
