Duties for this Position
Upon request, notify victims of all hearings at J. Reuben Long Detention Center
Upon request, notify victims upon offender released from custody, escapes, or is transferred to another facility
Upon request, may intervene on behalf of victims with employers
Notify victims of all summary and jury trials
Upon request, provide transportation to victim for court proceedings
Advise victims of case status and progress, maintain contact with and provide support to victims and/or family members throughout the criminal justice process as needed
Provide applications and information to victims concerning South Carolina Crime Victims Compensation; explain purpose, procedures, and policies, and assist in completion of forms
Attend magistrate court hearings seven (7) days a week and holidays
Attend all summary and jury trials within Horry County
Position Minimum Requirements
Associate or Bachelor’s Degree in criminal justice, psychology, or sociology is preferred; associate or bachelor’s degree in any other related field from an accredited university will be considered.
Two years’ experience working in a criminal justice system or related victim services field.
Ability to communicate well both orally and in written format
The ability to listen, show compassion and empathy for victims
Ability to identify problems and participate in team problem-solving efforts
Required to work varying schedules to attend magistrate bond court with victims seven (7) days a week including holidays or as required according to court schedules
