General Job Description

Under minimal supervision, the Community Engagement Coordinator is a motivated professional passionate about their community and committed to making a positive impact. This includes developing and implementing a comprehensive community engagement strategy, building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, coordinating community outreach efforts, representing the department at community events, and gathering and analyzing community feedback. This position will act as a bridge between the community and the Behavioral Services Department by fostering relationships and building trust both internally and externally to ensure that the department is responsive to needs and concerns. This position will be responsible for internally collaborating with other county departments to assist in strategically identifying the behavioral health needs of public safety employees and assist with guidance in navigating through any integrated supportive programs. This position will also serve as a liaison with the Emergency Management Department as pathways are identified to integrate behavioral health related support mechanisms into the county’s response matrix. Externally, this position will be responsible for building and maintaining a crisis preparedness campaign utilizing emergency management framework to educate community members as well as key stakeholders on how to navigate the various continuums of care in relation to Behavioral Health crises. This will include identifying opportunities of coordination and cooperation among service providers, crafting plans of action with subsequent guidance on the navigation of resources, and monitoring progress towards short- and long-term goals.

Duties for this Position
  • Development of a referral framework including government, non-profit, and private resources. Responsible for the management and maintenance of the referral network information updated and be responsible for dissemination to stakeholders, case managers and peer support coordinators.
  • Assist in the facilitation of coordination/leadership summits, conferences, and/or other applicable educational and training collectives.
  • Develop educational campaigns and programs to educate members of the community about topics related to the organization’s mission.
  • Coordinate and oversee community outreach efforts, including events, volunteer programs, and other initiatives across county departments to ensure that community engagement efforts are integrated and aligned with identified needs and goals.
  • Recruit, develop and coordinate varied behavioral health centric and supportive resources within the community through the performance of needs assessments.
  • Continuously seek potential project ideas that are in alignment to the identified needs of the community and find possible contributors amongst Community members; propose projects to Behavioral Services Director.
  • Monitor community activities and maintain a database and/or calendar of events to promote awareness of available resources.
  • Engagement with community leaders and stakeholders to understand community needs and to promote equal accessibility of services countywide.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Public Information Office and Behavioral Services Department to assist with the dissemination of information and campaigns related to departmental initiatives.
  • Serve as a liaison between the Emergency Management Department and Behavioral Services Department to assist with planning and integration of behavioral health related activities within Emergency Management operations.
  • Provide regular updates to internal and external community care teams related to any changes in accessibility of services within the behavioral health landscape.
  • Evaluate and report on progress of community engagement efforts.
  • Performs other related duties as required, requested, or assigned.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Requires Bachelor’s degree in Public Health, Social Work, Counseling, Public Administration, or another related field.
  • Minimum of two (2) years’ experience with community engagement activities required.
  • Preferred experience with PIO operations of at least one year.
  • Experience serving as a peer support (specifically within the public safety profession).
  • Preferred FEMA Independent Study Course (100, 200, 700, 800).
