General Job Description

Under general supervision, coordinates and oversees vehicle accident processing, fleet asset disposition, facility safety inspections, and safety training activities for the Fleet Services Department. Works closely with vendors, insurance representatives, Risk Management, and Procurement to ensure the proper handling of vehicle claims, repairs, and the sale of surplus vehicles. Supports department operations by maintaining safety standards, providing safety education, and ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures.

Duties for this Position
  • Coordinates the management of fleet vehicle and equipment accidents, including inspecting damaged units, obtaining vendor estimates, and communicating with Risk Management and insurance carriers.
  • Processes windshield claims and ensures timely repair or replacement of damaged glass on fleet assets.
  • Works with Procurement to facilitate the disposition of retired vehicles, including preparing descriptions for vehicles being sold at public auction.
  • Inspects retired vehicles to determine condition, necessary repairs, and marketability prior to sale.
  • Maintains documentation related to accidents, claims, repairs, vehicle disposals, and auction sales.
  • Conducts regular safety inspections of the fleet maintenance facility to ensure compliance with OSHA standards and County safety policies.
  • Develops and delivers safety training sessions ("toolbox talks") to Fleet Services staff to promote workplace safety and best practices.
  • Maintains professional communication with vendors, repair shops, auction representatives, Risk Management personnel, and insurance companies.
  • Assists with the maintenance and tracking of fleet-related reports, claims data, inspection logs, and safety records.
  • Supports continuous improvement efforts to enhance safety culture, operational efficiency, and fleet risk management processes.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Requires a high school diploma or GED, supplemented by at least three (3) years of experience in fleet operations, vehicle maintenance coordination, risk management support, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and ability. Experience with accident claims processing, vendor management, and safety inspection procedures is preferred.
  • Must possess and maintain a valid South Carolina driver’s license. ASE certification in Damage Analysis and Estimating (B6) is preferred. Completion of OSHA 10-Hour or equivalent workplace safety training is also desirable. An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.
