General Job Description

GENERAL STATEMENT OF JOB Under general supervision, operates a variety of types of heavy equipment, machinery and tools in order to perform maintenance on beaches, roadways, outfall pipes and boxes. Provides professional service as described in the Specific Duties and Responsibilities section for Horry County Beach Services Department as described by policy, procedures and mission statement. Reports to Beach Maintenance Supervisor.

Duties for this Position
  • Maintains drainage on and near beaches
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s License preferred.
  • Performs other related duties as required/assigned.
  • Understands and complies with Horry County and Departmental policies regarding absences and use of paid leave time and other policies.
  • Operates various pieces of heavy equipment. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Capable of operating backhoe and other heavy equipment as assigned.
  • Under general supervision, performs the following tasks: Performs litter detail on beach or cleanup detail on highways as assigned.
  • Operates specialized equipment empty refuse containers on beach
  • Should expect seasonal variations in work schedule and assignments
Position Minimum Requirements
  • High school education with two to three years of experience of truck, backhoe, or any other equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
  • Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license.
  • Knowledge of the required safety rules and regulations.
  • Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical and background check.
