General Job Description

Under general supervision and the direction of the Chief of Police and the Director of Behavioral Services, enforcement of State and Horry County law, rules, regulations and ordinances. Must work in all weather conditions, be proficient with firearms, and able to respond to potential law enforcement concerns as needed. The CIT Investigator will conduct investigations that focus on mental health and suicide prevention.

Duties for this Position
  • 42.75-hour weekly schedule
  • Maintain on-call status as needed
  • Preserve, collect, document, secure, and transport evidence
  • Conduct interviews & interrogations
  • Coordinate investigative meetings & strategies
  • Review and update ongoing investigations
  • Communicate with individuals/ families impacted by mental health crises
  • Author and serve search warrants on people, real property, and electronic devices
  • Complete detailed and timely investigative reports and investigative work product
  • Testify at hearings and criminal trials
  • Attend meetings and presentations
  • Collect and maintain statistical information for tracking and reporting purposes
  • Partner with other county and community agencies/ departments
  • Manage caseloads as assigned
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Currently holds a SC Class 1 Law Enforcement Officer certification
  • Currently holds or previously held the rank of police detective or investigator
  • Effectively and efficiently managed case loads as a police detective or investigator
  • Advanced mental/ behavioral health training preferred
  • High School graduate or equivalent diploma is required
  • Must have a valid South Carolina driver’s license
  • Must be able to pass required pre-employment physical and background check
