General Job Description

Under general supervision, performs service, administrative, and clerical support for the Code Enforcement operations. Provides assistance to management and co-workers. Receives inquiries and provides assistance to the general public. Receives, reviews, prepares and/or submits a variety of documents such as department records, logs, inventory lists, routine reports, official documents, schedules, civil papers, etc.

Duties for this Position
  • Functions as initial contact with customers both in person and by phone. Answers the telephone; provides accurate information to callers and/or forwards calls to appropriate staff person. Provides information to customer such as zoning of property on GIS, permitted objects on a certain property, submittal requirements, building codes, permit regulations, etc.
  • Reviews documents, enters required information into computer, determines type of permit applicable to request, number of days for processing and others needing involvement in process.
  • Coordinates application processing with appropriate staff for completion monitors for processing within the timeline given to customer.
  • Prepares applications for corrections or issuance, computes and collects fees, completes paperwork to issue permits, conducts research, and answers basic building and zoning code questions.
  • Reviews and processes building, planning, and engineering permit applications with applicable documents to ensure within compliance with regulations.
  • Performs elementary plan check of plans, encroachments, setbacks, decks, fences, spas, etc. for completeness and conformance to codes, ordinances, or policies.
  • Reviews and issues routine less complicated building, planning, engineering permits including but not limited to: spas, swimming pools, HVAC equipment, bath and kitchen renovations, re-roofing, etc.
  • Enters information and maintains the County’s automated building permit system; including but not limited to inputting new streets and addresses in the building permit land management system.
  • Calculates various building valuations, performs simple mathematical calculations.
  • Issues permits and calculates fees according to specified fee and plan check schedules.
  • Assists co-workers in any areas necessary.
  • Performs other related duties as required.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Requires associates degree in secretarial science, administrative management or related field supplemented by one year of general office/clerical office experience, or any equivalent combination of training, experience, knowledge and abilities.
  • Must be computer literate and have extensive experience with office software packages.
  • Must be able to multitask.
  • Must obtain ICC Permit Technician Certification within one year of employment.
