General Job Description
Under supervision, performs daily task to maintain the Horry County Animal Shelter building and grounds in a clean, orderly and sanitary condition. This individual reports to Kennel Supervisor.
- Duties for this Position

- • Performs various custodial/building maintenance duties as assigned including but not limited to cleaning and maintaining the animal shelter and its kennels; restocking necessary materials; feeding animals as directed; vacuuming; cleaning/maintenance/repair of floors, walls, ceilings, fixtures, furniture, and appliance in areas; and maintaining miscellaneous areas of the shelter for example: laundry room, storage areas, yard, sidewalk areas, restrooms, etc.
• Observes animals in areas making notes of an apparent illness and informing Shelter Technician.
• Moves animals to other cages as directed including transferring necessary identification paperwork.
• Advises Kennel Attendant II of needed supplies to maintain the standards of the shelter.
• Utilizes a variety of tools and equipment in the performance of the job including brooms, mops, vacuums, buffer, cleaners, lawn mower, weed eater, edger, blower, vehicle, hedge trimmer, rake, carpenter’s tools, mechanics tools, etc.
• Ensure Horry County Government and Departmental policies are adhered to in their area of operation.
• Performs work during emergency/disaster situations. Performs related duties as assigned.
- Position Minimum Requirements

- • GED and/or one to two years of custodial experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 lbs, work weekends and may work nights as needed and must be able to stand for long hours.
• Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical and background check.
