General Job Description

Under limited supervision, the Human Resources Generalist provides a wide variety of both complex and routine HR support services by working in a collaborative role with HR staff, county leadership, and county employees to improve organizational performance and the work environment. Must be able to quickly establish rapport in employee relationships; create an environment of collaboration with County decision makers; contribute to a high-performance human resources department; maintain flexibility in a dynamic work environment; and maintain the Human Resources Department’s standard of trust, integrity, teamwork, and customer service. Additionally, this position will participate in a wide range of HR functions including, but not limited to, employee onboarding/offboarding, leadership development, performance evaluations, internal investigations, salary reviews, benefits administration, employee relations, recruitment, and job evaluation. Must exercise strategic perspective and implement HR initiatives at an integrated level within the County. Reports to the Deputy Director of HR.

Duties for this Position
  • Studies actual and potential problems and develops appropriate solutions. Acquires and disseminates information concerning work methods and procedures, organization, work controls and similar management functions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) guidelines and laws.
  • Maintain current knowledge of County Guidelines.
  • Works with County departments to develop job descriptions.
  • Address employee relations issues, such as harassment allegations, work complaints, or other employee concerns.
  • Assist County departments with all recruitment, interviewing, and scheduling.
  • Provides county departments with process design consultation.
  • Maintain, audit, and review employee-related files, documents, and information.
  • Other related duties as required.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Human Resources, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Business, or equivalent with five (5) years of progressive experience in Human Resources position, or any equivalent combinations of knowledge, skills, abilities. Certification through IPMA-HR, SHRM, or HRCI preferred. Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical and background check.
