General Job Description
Under limited supervision, repairs, services, and maintains Horry County Fire/Rescue owned heavy trucks and equipment including ambulances.
- Duties for this Position

- • Reports to the Fire Rescue Fleet Manager
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Working knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and equipment involved in automotive repair with fire and medic units.
• Operate and maintain a variety of hand and power tools and diagnostic equipment.
• Working knowledge of the internal combustion engines, both gas and diesel, and principles of operations of automotive equipment to include emergency vehicles.
• Repairs, including, but not limited to, brakes, engines and electrical work.
• Able to perform complex diagnostic tests, repairs and maintenance on light duty vehicles.
• Conducts/assists with ladder testing, SCBA maintenance and testing, pumps testing, and other fire equipment testing/maintenance as required by department SOPs, OSHA, NFPA and ISO.
• Performs other related duties as required.
- Position Minimum Requirements

- • Requires high school diploma or GED and two years’ experience in heavy equipment repair.
• Must be able to weld and cut, as well as, some fabrication working knowledge.
• Must have CDL license or a permit and able to obtain CDL endorsement within one year of hire date.
• Must have fabrication working knowledge.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
• Working knowledge of standard practices, methods, tools and equipment involved in automotive repair with fire and medic units.
• Working knowledge of the internal combustion engines, both gas and diesel, and principles of operations of automotive equipment to include emergency vehicles.

• Able to perform complex diagnostic tests, repairs and maintenance on light duty vehicles.

• Must obtain certification as an Emergency Vehicle Technician (EVT) within one year of assignment to this position.
• Performs other related duties as required.
• Reports directly to the Department Fleet & Facilities Maintenance Officer.
• Must have heavy equipment repair knowledge, certifications and or comparable experience.
• Must be able to lift 100 lbs.
• Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical and background check.
