General Job Description
Under general supervision, performs skilled technical duties in the inspection of commercial properties to ensure compliance with fire and life safety codes. Employees in this classification are responsible for ensuring that the structures of an assigned territory or functional area are designed in such manner as to allow for persons to safely exit in the event of an emergency, and to ensure proper access/ allowance for Fire Department. Objective is to prevent and minimize emergency and fire situations. Performs other related work as directed.
- Duties for this Position

- Perform routine fire inspections in occupancies open to the public to ensure the highest reasonable degree of fire safety for the general public
Assess compliance with current adopted codes, standards, and state laws
Establish and maintain a schedule of inspections
Document results of inspections
Follow-up on deficiencies and required corrective actions
Maintain complete and accurate records of all inspections
Investigate complaints of possible fire code violations
Develop good working relationships with property managers, business owners, and other responsible parties to advance fire safety in the County
- Position Minimum Requirements

- Requires a high school diploma supplemented by three years of experience performing fire inspections, or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities
Must possess a valid state driver’s license
Must be able to pass required pre-employment physical and background check
Must possess and maintain a ICC or NFPA Fire Inspector I certification within six months of hire date
Must possess and maintain a South Carolina Certified Fire Marshal certification within one year of hire date
Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical and background check.
