General Job Description
Under general supervision, responsible for the analysis and identification of seized evidence suspected to be a controlled substance.
- Duties for this Position

- Perform various areas of casework including extractions, prepping, dilutions, concentrations and data analysis.
- Responsible for the preparation of various solvents and reagents including chemical spot test reagents, solvents for instrumental analysis etc.
- Testify in Federal, State and local courts as directed.
- Perform presumptive chemical spot tests for officers as requested.
- Responsible for transferring bulk evidence back to outside agencies as requested.
- Maintain security, integrity, and control of property and evidence that are submitted to the drug analysis lab.
- Provide security of items to prevent loss or contamination, and to locate in a timely fashion.
- Maintain chains of custody with accompanying BEST kit submissions.
- Perform various custodial duties including cleaning of lab, washing dishes, restocking supplies, sterilizing dishes used in casework, disposal of broken glass containers as needed.
- Distribution of drug analysis case reports to submitting person(s) as requested.
- Responsible for various report generating tasks including typing report templates, report review, exporting reports, report distribution, report uploading, and disposal of information sensitive paperwork.
- Responsible for changing out nitrogen and helium gas tanks as needed.
- Perform maintenance and troubleshooting of the Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometers in the lab.
- Maintain various logs, case tracker, outside agency billing, monthly case and item count reports.
- Responsible for various calibration tasks including managing and storing calibration tunes for the instruments, spot test reagent calibration, balance calibrations, scheduling yearly calibration of certified weights and balances, monthly checks of temperatures of fridge and freezer.

- Position Minimum Requirements

- Bachelor Degree in Chemistry is required, two (2) years of experience in the analysis of controlled substances preferred.
- Ability to learn operations of laboratory instrumentation required.
- Must have experience with computer and office software packages.
- Must pass a pre-employment polygraph exam, extensive background check, and pre-employment physical.
