General Job Description
The Fleet Automotive Mechanic are responsible for all repairs on light vehicles, Police, Sheriff, EMS, Fire, Public Works, etc.
- Duties for this Position

- Diagnoses mechanical and electrical problems with County vehicles.
- Repairs malfunctions including but not limited to a/c heating system; brakes; engine; transmission; body; etc.
- Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles, including adding oil, balancing tires, flushing fuel lines, changing filters, scanning clear codes, checking engine lights, etc.
- Replaces parts, makes adjustments or rebuilds engines as appropriate.
- Replaces, removes and installs various equipment in County owned vehicles including but not limited to radios; light bars; front end parts; reflectors; stickers; various accessories; etc.
- Assists co-workers in diagnosing vehicle malfunctions and making repairs as necessary.
- Inspects tools and machinery for safety periodically.
- Prepares and submits daily vehicle maintenance reports.
- Interacts with immediate supervisor, co-workers, County employees, etc.
- Able and willing to comply with Horry County and Department policies.
- Performs related duties as assigned.
- Position Minimum Requirements

- Requires a high school diploma or GED, supplemented by vocational/technical training in the automotive field or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience in a related field or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license and pass the required pre-employment criminal background check and physical.
