General Job Description

Under general supervision, assist in the ground handling and servicing of aircraft on the General Aviation (GA) ramp to include but not limited to, greeting and providing customer service to members of the general public, VIP customers, and politicians, transports customers & luggage. Marshaling, tie-down, general servicing, and towing aircraft into and out of hangars. Coordinates with Customer Service to verify aircraft servicing requirements are met. Completes general housekeeping and lawn maintenance. Able to assist in the daily operation or extended operations of the airport when required. Assist in any area as directed by the Airport Director, Senior Staff, and Supervisor. Reports to Flight Line Supervisor.

Duties for this Position
  • Some knowledge of fueling, ramp, and fuel farm operations in a FBO environment is desirable.
  • Must be capable of operating fuel trucks.
  • Has the ability to distinguish different types of GA aircraft by type, size, and fuel requirement.
  • Must be able to complete fuel receipt deliveries with minimum supervision.
  • Assists others in performing quality control inspections on fuel and fueling equipment.
  • Must maintain all assigned equipment in a highly serviceable manner.
  • Assist in troubleshooting fueling equipment and makes minor repairs as directed by supervisor.
  • Must be able to perform daily quality control test(s) and operational inspections on fuel trucks, fuel farms, and self-service systems.
  • Operates other support equipment such as FOD sweepers, aircraft tow vehicles, aircraft generators, air start units, air stairs, belt loaders, and various ground support equipment.
  • Documents daily inspection records as required by ATA Specification 103, Mil-Std 1548C, and Shell Aviation guidelines.
  • Must coordinate with coworkers, supervisor, shift leader, and Customer Service staff to ensure customer requirements are accurately fulfilled.
  • Must be able to communicate with 800 MHz radio, telephones, email, and log books.
  • Airport Security, FAA, and TSA security training is mandatory.
  • Must be familiar with Airport Emergency Action Plan and assist in emergency preparations.
  • Must complete all required training including, but not limited to, NATA Safety First Training.
  • Must have basic understanding of Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and possess the ability to locate and use SDS instructions in emergency situations.
  • Must be familiar with local Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasures (SPCC) plan and spill reporting procedures.
  • Understands and complies with Horry County and Department policies regarding absences and use of paid leave time.
  • Responsible for general housekeeping and cleaning of FBO and maintenance of FBO landscaping.
  • Horry County AAA drivers training and airport drivers training is required.
  • Completion of Shell Aviation basic computer based training is required.
  • OSHA, fire extinguisher, Hazmat, and Blood borne pathogen training are required.
  • Horry County AAA drivers training and airport drivers training is required.
  • Performs other related and unrelated duties as directed.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • High school graduate or GED completion.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, ability to stand, walk and sit for extended periods.
  • Experience in general aviation, military training, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge and abilities.
  • Valid South Carolina driver's license. Must pass 10 yr. background check, physical, and drug test.
  • Written test and/or work ability demonstration may be required.
  • Experience in fueling, fuel farm operation, fueling equipment, and fuel quality control procedures is preferred. Two years airport/Flight Line experience.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, Mil Std. l 548C, ATA Specification l 03, FAA regulations, TSA, and Homeland Security standards.
  • Experience handling hazardous materials such as petroleum products and related supplies.
  • Knowledge of fire prevention techniques.
  • Will be required to work outside in all weather conditions.
  • Will be required to be available for the support of after-hours requirements working nights, weekends, and holidays.
