General Job Description

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Operates various pieces of heavy equipment. 2. Performs routine preventative maintenance on equipment as required. 3. Uses site levels and other surveying tools as necessary. 4. Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds. 5. Performs other related duties as required/assigned. KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES QUALIFICATIONS Requires high school diploma with three (3) to five (5) years of experience in heavy equipment operation or related field; or any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities. Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical and background check. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Must possess a valid South Carolina driver’s license. Class A Commercial Driver’s License required. Physical Demands: Sufficient physical ability to perform moderate to heavy lifting; reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, and crawling; walking, standing and climbing for prolonged periods of time; operating motorized equipment and vehicles. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move more than 50 pounds. Work Environment: Construction site and office environment; travel from site to site; work with and around heavy construction equipment and pesticides; work on slippery and uneven surfaces; work around traffic; exposure to noise, dust, heat and inclement weather conditions. Periodically work beyond normal work hours or works on-call or on an as-needed basis. The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. OTHER REQUIREMENTS Reads routine sentences, instructions, regulations, procedures, or work orders; writes routine sentences and completes routine job forms and incident reports, speaks routine sentences using proper grammar. Performs manual and technical tasks requiring a wide range of procedures and requiring intensive understanding of a restricted field or complete familiarity with the functions of a unit or small division of an operating agency; requires normal attention with short periods of concentration for accurate results or occasional exposure to unusual pressure. Guides others, making frequent decisions, affecting the individual, coworkers, and others who depend on the service or product. Ability to maintain physical conditions necessary to perform official duties and day-to-day operations, and to operate job related equipment.
