General Job Description

Under occasional supervision, performs a variety of complex administrative and clerical duties in order to ensure effective and efficient office operation. Provides a high level of customer service to the Register of Deeds clients via the telephone, internet, or in person. Provides assistance to supervisors, co-workers, and the general public as required. Performs other job-related duties as required. Position primarily involves customer service, but employee will be cross trained in other limited areas and responsibilities of the Register of Deeds.

Duties for this Position
  • Professionally answer Customer Service phone lines and fill Customer Service document requests.
  • Accurately verify mailings of documents and prepare them for mailing.
  • Professionally and cordially greet and direct walk-in customers as needed.
  • Record documents across the counter and electronically according to SC State Statutes.
  • Review recordings and images during the recording and quality control process for accuracy.
  • Accurately index and verify recorded documents after recording.
  • Provide assistance to supervisors, co-workers and the general public as required.
  • Be a flexible team player ready to work in queues and at various work stations as needed.
  • Performs other job duties as required.
  • Will be crossed trained in limited areas and responsibilities of the ROD.
  • Reports to the Customer Service Team supervisor.
  • Meet team/departmental performance standards.
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Associate degree in secretarial science or equivalent, and one (1) year general office/clerical experience or high school diploma and three (3) years of clerical/general office experience, or any equivalent combination of training, experience, knowledge and abilities.
  • Applicants should have extensive knowledge with computer and office software packages.
  • Must be able to pass the required pre-employment physical and background check.
  • Preferred candidates should be able to accurately type 60 – 75 words per minute, great attention detail, adaptive to workplace change, whether process updates or work environment, and the ability to work independently as well in a team environment.
