General Job Description

Under general supervision, repairs, services, and maintains a fleet of County-owned ambulances, heavy trucks, trailers and any other County owned equipment as needed.

Duties for this Position
  • Diagnoses mechanical, structural and electrical problems with County vehicles and equipment.
  • Repairs malfunctions including but not limited to belts, brakes, small engine, transmissions, body, etc. Replaces parts and makes adjustments to drivelines.
  • Performs preventative maintenance on vehicles, including adding oil, balancing tires, flushing fuel lines, changing filters, scanning clear codes, checking engine lights, etc.
  • Replaces parts, makes adjustments or rebuilds engines as appropriate.
  • Replaces, removes, and installs various equipment in County owned vehicles including but not limited to radios, light bars, front end parts, reflectors, stickers, various accessories, etc. May weld parts as necessary.
  • Assists co-workers in diagnosing vehicles malfunctions and making repairs as necessary. Test drive vehicles for repairs.
  • Inspects tools and machinery for safety periodically.
  • Prepares and submits daily vehicle maintenance reports.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of trucks, machinery and equipment such as: lawnmowers, bunker and field rakes, weed eaters, , ATVs, Argo ATVs, light duty pick up trucks, mini excavator, covered trailer, flatbed trailer, tire changer, welder, grinder, torch, air wrench, cranes, lifts, mechanic tools, etc.
  • Response to emergency calls as needed.
  • Maintains and repairs cars and light trucks as necessary.
  • Maintains clean and orderly work area.
  • Must own tools as needed by a small equipment mechanic.
  • Any and all related tasks as assigned by a supervisor
Position Minimum Requirements
  • Requires vocational/technical diploma equipment/machinery repair supplemented by three (3) to five (5) years of experience in a related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. Must be able to obtain various certifications as required. Must be able to weld and cut, as well as, some fabrication working knowledge. Must possess a valid driver’s license and pass the criminal background check and drug test.
